What we do

The RCCP perform the following activities;

  • Set standards for education, training and practice;
  • Accredit education programmes to make sure that they meet our standards;
  • Maintain a publicly accessible register of qualified professionals; and
  • take action if professionals on our register do not meet our standards.

Clinical physiologists are not regulated by law. Registration with us is voluntary but most employers require their staff to be registered. Registration is a clear demonstration to the public that a clinical physiologist is committed to upholding high standards of conduct and practice.

Our register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA). The PSA has a range of roles, including overseeing the work of ten UK regulators of health and care professionals and running the accredited registers scheme. Accreditation with the PSA means that the RCCP is committed to public safety and has met high standards for how it runs its register and investigates concerns about its registrants.
