The following routes are available for Clinical Physiology Registration, which accommodate a range of training, skills and clinical Practice:
AHCS Healthcare Science Clinical Physiology Register: Join The Register - The Academy For Healthcare Science (ahcs.ac.uk)
Clinical Physiology Equivalence Registration: RCCP Registration Platform.
** Please note: Clinical Exercise Physiologists can currently only apply via the equivalence route .
For more information on these routes, including their requirements, Please see the following documents.
* Please note that application guidance is now only relevant (from 18.07.23) for Equivalence applications, updated guidance will be available shortly. You cannot apply for student, graduate, upgrade to graduate, standard or return to practice on the RCCP registration platform.
Graduate and standard applications can be made through the AHCS portal. Join The Register - The Academy For Healthcare Science (ahcs.ac.uk) There will be a new student directory available on the AHCS platform shortly, giving students the option to move over to this system, activating the Upgrade to graduate option on course completion. For all return to practice enquiries, please contact: registration@ahcs.ac.uk
Eligibility will be based on a number of factors including relevant education (both academic and vocational), relevant clinical experience and dependent on the route through which you apply, the provision of satisfactory references.
The Standards
If you are applying to be registered, you will need to sign a declaration to confirm that you will keep to the standards once you are registered. As a registrant, you are personally responsible for the way you behave. You will need to use your judgement so that you make informed and reasonable decisions and meet the standards. You must always be prepared to justify your decisions and actions. Making informed and reasonable decisions might include getting advice and support from colleagues, education providers, employers, professional bodies, trade unions or other people. In particular, we recognise the valuable role professional bodies play in representing and promoting the interests of their members. This often includes providing guidance and advice about good practice, which can help you meet the standards.
The Standards refer to : -
Standards of Proficiency for Healthcare Science Practitioners - June 2023
*Please note AHCS is publishing this interim update to the Standards of Proficiency for Healthcare Scientist Practitioners to facilitate the merging of the RCCP and AHCS Clinical Physiology part of the Register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. A fuller review of these standards will be taking place in summer/autumn 2023. There is no requirement for Academic Institutions to alter curricula in response to this update.
Please note that you can no longer apply for M Level (Postgraduate) Registration with RCCP
RCCP will no longer offer the M Level/Postgraduate option. Due to scheduled changes, current M Level Registrants will continue to have the status for the remainder of the registration year (April 30th 2022).
M level registration does not infer eligibility to register as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC but acted as a mechanism to evidence further study in the chosen modality. Registrants with M level status often used the RCCP M Level mechanism as a starting point for the AHCS equivalence application process. RCCP registrants interested in applying for the higher level of registration are advised to consider applying for the Certificate of Equivalence via the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS).
The Certificate of Equivalence was introduced as an assessment pathway that allows clinical physiologists and practitioners in other healthcare science disciplines to demonstrate how their training, qualifications and/or considerable professional experience meets the level required for registration as a clinical scientist.
Successful completion of the Certificate of Equivalence allows a practitioner to apply for registration as a clinical scientist with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC).
